Location and Schedule

Quick Overview

True North Development Cycles are delivered in carefully selected alpine environments in Austria (primary) and other European locations (secondary).

Cycles are capacity-limited, and application-based.

Currently, cycles run in two seasonal windows:

  • Fall: October–December

  • Spring: April–May

Each cycle is complete on its own, with options for athletes to return back-to-back or in future seasons, depending on availability and capacity.

In Practice

Where We Train

  • Focus on high-quality alpine terrain and glacier skiing where appropriate

  • Location choices prioritize learning value, technical challenge, and snow consistency

  • Secondary European locations may be used for special cycles

Cycle Scheduling

  • Development Cycles run Saturday (arrival day) to next Saturday (departure day)

  • There is a semi-informal meeting with coaches and other athletes on arrival and departure days. The goals are orientation (for arriving athletes), getting to know the team and celebration of successes (for departing athletes). Participation is highly encouraged

  • Each Development Cycle is ideally delivered over 6 consecutive days (~25 hours on-snow), but in exceptional cases (low visibility, safety, emergencies) it may be completed in 5 days

  • Flexible training window (Development Cycle not starting and ending on Saturday) is available for Dedicated Teams

Capacity and Participation

  • Development Cycles are capacity-limited and application-based

  • Early booking ensures spots, as once a cycle is sold out, additional participants cannot be added

  • Athletes must have sufficient fitness and recovery capacity for full back-to-back skiing days

  • Gym and off-snow preparation are encouraged but not mandatory

Returning or Consecutive Cycles

  • A single Development Cycle is complete on its own

  • Athletes may choose to:

    • Take back-to-back cycles if capacity allows

    • Return later in the same season or in future seasons

  • Coaches provide guidance on planning return cycles, including training focus and consolidation strategies

Logistics

  • Accommodation, flights, and airport transfers are arranged independently by athletes

  • Guidance is provided for location suitability and logistics coordination

  • Teams or groups may assign a “team captain” for shared logistical coordination

Key Principles

  • Focused on learning quality and long-term development, not convenience or short-term gains

  • Attendance is intentional, not assumed from year to year

  • Progress is supported through deliberate preparation, in-cycle coaching, and post-cycle reflection
